On Friday the team went to PS7 to do a demonstration for the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. I thought it was a lot of fun to see the kids faces when they say the robot run the missions.
Event and Activity Log
Friday, we went to PS7 (Public School 7) and presented to the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. We showed them our presentation, gave them a quick demonstration of the table, then we did a run. It got a little boring after the second time, but it was really cool to see the kid's faces light up when they saw the table and the robot doing its missions.
Well when we arrived at the Capitol or the block that it was on, trying to find a parking spot in the parking complex was kind of crazy, the roof seemed to be to low in some spots... lol... but we finally found a spot on the top floor. Then we took the elevator down and started to walk towards the Capitol.
When we arived we had a little fun trying to find the place where we singed up for the tours but we eventually found it and met up with out tour guide who was just about to leave. ~ talk about perfect timing ~ Starting on the 3rd floor we viewed the Senators and Represenatives assembly room ~one was pink and we all loved that... Not!! ~ Then we walked down the steps to the 2nd floor and on our way down we saw some photos of our former Governors. On the second floor we were able to see the Rotunda and all the differant lighting, some of the lights were out. ~and I wouldn't want to have to change them~ But it was still quite magnificent. Once on the first floor again we were able to walk to the Governors office but we didn't get to see him.
After the tour was over we walked back to the truck and got our lunch as we walked past the rose garden and saw some memorials. After we finished lunch we walked to the front of the capitol which had turned into Agricultural Day and first Al and I raced through the crowds and got a few flowers to give out to our group. After handing out the flowers we all started to walk through the crowds of people and we picked up some free : almonds, flowers, and milk. We also grabbed a picture with an apple or a peach or whatever the person was dressed as...
After we got out of the crowd we went back into the Capitol and lost out way through the building until we finally found what we were looking for... room 2054 were we talked to the senators secretary and just as we were leaving the office the senator showed up and we were able to grab a quick photo with him as we started to leave.
On Tuesday the team went to that state capital to go meet Senator... well we kinda met him :(. he was late so we only got a picture with him. But other then that is was a lot of fun.
On Tuesday, we drove down to Stockton so we could visit the PG&E Training Center. When we first pulled up to the building, it looked like storage building. We grabbed some of our supplies, like the robot, and walked in. We were greeted by a receptionist who told us to go to the cafeteria and wait for our teacher. We met our teacher, Bill Holloway, and he showed us our classroom. We showed him our presentation, and he asked us some questions. Then he said as a joke, "I don't know what I can teach you." He showed us the training lab; where we froze our fingers to a refrigerator, saw ourselves in weird light that made Al look green, and the created a fireball using a furnace. We ate lunch and then showed Bill our robot. He thought that the robot was very cool (who doesn’t?) and then he asked us some questions about F.I.R.S.T. Bill said that he had something cool to show us. He took us outside to a house, where we visited the basement and the attic to look at different types of insulation. After, we went inside and watched some videos about the destruction of unprotected hot water tanks. Then we said goodbye, and left. I thought that it was a very successful day.
Today, we went to PG&E energy training center. We sat in a classroom, and talked about our different subjects, and the guy, (I can't remember his name) said what he thought he could do for us. We then went into the lab, and looked at lighting, a fridge, and a heater. After that, we went into they're house, and we could see examples of different AC systems and insulation. On the second floor, we looked at different kinds of lighting, and then in the attic, we saw examples of the insulation and ducts. We went back into the classroom, and talked about what we learned, and watched some short videos. And, it was really fun!!!!
On March 11 the team did a presentation to the board of supervisers. After we finished we were given awards (which is hanging up on my wall right now lol). I think it was kinda stressful to me because I forgot what I was going to say when I went up to interduce the team. But after that I had a lot of fun and I would do it again in a heart beat :)
On Tuesday, we showed our presentation and robot to the Placer County Board of Supervisors. They really liked the robot, and thought that the energy solution for their building was to just blow it up. When we were done, we were all given awards. My favorite part was when the person taking pictures asked if the robot was going to fight another robot.
We presented our robot at Noralto school. It was fun watching people look at our robot imediatly come over to see.
This evening, we went to Noralto school, to show them what we do. We had our robot doing some missions, and the Mystery Machine going on the other table. We told them what everything was, and explained why we did certain things the way we did.
