Today we went to the California State Capitol, in Sacramento.

First, we went through security, which was a bit scary, but we all passed.  Then, we ran around trying to find our tour guide.  After we met up with her, we went to the 2nd floor.  It was cool because we could look down into the room below us, where there was a really great statue beneath us.  After that, we went to this other room which was pink (Robin just loved it) where we could see some of the workers below us talking and working which was cool.  While we were there, our tour guide talked about the history of the building, which was interesting to hear.  Then we went to another room, almost exactly like the one before, but this one was green (Robin was happy now) where we could see the voting place.  She talked about the rules of the state, and the way you voted in this room.  After that, we went back down and looked at some of the pictures of previous governors.  She talked about them too.

Then we went out to the car and got our lunch, and walked around the gardens and saw some amazing statues and the rose garden.

After that we went to meet the senator, Sam Aanestad.  He wasn't there, so we started walking out, but on our way out he walked past us, and into his office.  We went back, and got a picture with him which was cool.  It was fun!!

When we arrived at the Capitol (or the block that it was on) trying to find a parking spot in the parking complex was kind of crazy,  the roof seemed to be to low in some spots... lol... but we finally found a spot on the top floor. Then we took the elevator down and started to walk towards the Capitol.

When we arived we had a little fun trying to find the place where we signed up for the tours but we eventually found it and met up with our tour guide who was just about to leave. ~ talk about perfect timing! Starting on the 3rd floor we viewed the Senators and Represenatives assembly room ~one was pink and we all loved that... Not!! ~ Then we walked down the steps to the 2nd floor and on our way down we saw some photos of our former Governors. On the second floor we were able to see the Rotunda and all the differant lighting, some of the lights were out. ~and I wouldn't want to have to change them~ But it was still quite magnificent. Once on the first floor again we were able to walk to the Governors office but we didn't get to see him.

After the tour was over we walked back to the truck and got our lunch. We ate as we walked past the rose garden and saw some memorials. After we finished lunch we walked to the front of the capitol which had turned into  Agricultural Day and first Al and I raced through the crowds and got a few flowers to give out to our group. After handing out the flowers we all started to walk through the crowds of people and we picked up some free stuff: almonds, flowers, and milk. We also grabbed a picture with an apple or a peach or whatever the person was dressed as...

After we got out of the crowd we went back into the Capitol and lost our way through the building until we finally found what we were looking for... room 2054, were we talked to the senator's secretary. Just as we were leaving the office the senator showed up and we were able to grab a quick photo with him as we started to leave.

Below is a photo log that our Assistant Coach (Heidi) made:

Today, March 25th, the Lego Guards travelled to the State Capitol in Sacramento!

They travelled long and hard with a goal: meet a Senator!

Finally, they reached the Capitol, admiring the grand neoclassical architecture (well, they had to... their assistant coach IS their art teacher too)

They took a tour of the assembly...

and amazing rotunda!

and met a Capitol Guard! (he liked the Lego Guards), who let them in to see...

Governor Schwarzenegger's Secretary's office!!

They believe that Governor Schwarzenegger was BEHIND this door (Their assistant coach believes she heard him).

After a tour of the grounds, rose garden and Vietnam Memorial, the Lego Guards checked out AG day at the Capitol. They were giving away free flowers and the Lego Guards got some for their assistant coach and Moms!

They also met a very large tomato.

Back inside the Capitol, The Lego Guards patiently waited for their meeting with State Senator  (4th District) Sam Aanestad. His assistant, Kathy, let each team member sit in his very large leather chair while they were waiting. (Robin looked best)

Finally, the Lego Guards got a quick photo with Senator Aanestad!

Then they made the long journey back home.
